I was in a business visit. The room is massively big. I was not familiar with that hotel but it seems like they know what they are doing. And they are well aware and always apologize for the noise due to the running generator. ( I prefer the noise and have electricity then otherwise :). )

What an exceptional place. Fantastic rooms, excellent staff, good food and the owner that tells you everything about the history of the place and pecan business. If you like reading there is a beautiful library. Thanks Benny.

Food was great, and not too expensive. Great atmosphere. Service was brilliant. I wish I remembered our waiters name, because she was extraordinary. Hope to go there again!

A quaint town in the Northern Cape, Jan Kempdorp is a gateway to South Africa’s agricultural heartland. Located along the N18, it offers visitors a serene escape into the countryside, with its roots deeply tied to the Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme, a remarkable feat of engineering that sustains the region’s fertile farmlands.

The Border Post Hotel is the best place to stay in the area, offering a convenient and welcoming base for exploring everything the town has to offer. The town’s peaceful ambiance and surrounding landscapes make it a charming stop for travelers exploring the area.

Whether passing through or seeking a tranquil retreat, Jan Kempdorp provides a glimpse of rural South African life, complemented by warm hospitality and scenic agricultural vistas.

a wonderful find We had the most wonderful stay over with our 2 dogs. What a gem of a find. Such old world charm, great hearty food and a lovely warm feel to the place. We had a great long walk among the pecan orchards (after sitting most of the day driving) and sitting outside afterwards with some cold drinks and a snack taking in the late afternoon was wonderful and soulful. Loved it!

What an unexpected gem! This is a five star establishment. All the fittings and furnishings are out of the top drawer. Furthermore, I received a really great welcome and was treated to an upgrade to my room. I can unreservedly recommend this hotel.

Prepare to be blown away Beautiful good sized rooms, impressive quality furnishings. All this at a very affordable price. I thought it would be too good to be true, but I was blown away. Pity we arrived late for a one night stay and had to checkout very early, and I didn’t get to experience all its splendour. Our delicious breakfast was prepared to go since we would leave before the restaurant opens. I recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here over and over when in town.

Border Hotel- By FAR the best stay in the Northern Cape!!! Room was clean, spacious, well organized, tastefully decorated! The staff- very friendly and helpful, the breakfast , DIVINE. I wish i had woken up earlier to go cycling on the farm. Not a single thing to complain about. If you are driving past Jan Kempdorp, this is the place to stay.

Excellent All Round - Highly Recommended This review is relatively objective being my 17th road trip, staying in 18 properties over a 43 night period. I stayed solo for one night in February. Easily found with plenty of secure parking. Very pleasant and helpful staff throughout with hands on owners. Despite being roadside, very quiet at night with a little morning traffic. Decor/furnishings throughout were lovely old school without being dark & gloomy. The library and restaurant were especially full of atmosphere. Room 4 air conditioned with a balcony overlooking the well kept garden was large, luxurious, comfortable and well equipped including a Nespresso type coffee machine. Bed linen quality was excellent. There is a stair lift for those with restricted mobility. Dinner was taken outside on the terrace/stoep. Decent food at decent prices. Breakfast to a good standard was cooked to order and served in the restaurant. The large bar was lively. Decent WiFi throughout and a large generator sorted out the load shedding. I had the time in the morning to take a very interesting tour of the property’s pecan farm conducted by the owner - if you have the time I recommend this. Clearly a large amount of time, effort (and money!) has been expended by the owners to restore this old hotel to it’s previous splendour. Highly recommended, this will now be my ‘pit stop’ enroute to the West Coast from Gauteng.
